FAQs
Can the AeroBand Guitar function as a MIDI controller?
Yes. AeroBand Guitar can be used as a MIDI controller, connecting to MIDI-compatible devices and DAW software via wired or Bluetooth MIDI.AeroBand Guitar is compatible with most major DAWs, including:
- Logic Pro
- Ableton Live
- FL Studio
- Cubase
- Studio One
- Reaper
AeroBand can be connected as a MIDI controller via the following two methods:
1. Wired Connection
1.1 Connecting to Computers (Windows / macOS)You can connect AeroBand Guitar directly to a Windows or macOS computer using a data cable.Once connected, AeroBand Guitar transmits MIDI data (note, velocity, etc.) to your computer. Compatible DAWs such as Reaper, Logic Pro, Cubase, and Ableton Live can then use this data to play sounds through built-in instruments or third-party VST/AU plugins.1.2 Connecting to Mobile Devices (iOS / Android)AeroBand Guitar also supports wired MIDI connections with mobile devices.
- iOS devices: A compatible USB-C hub is required. Connect the hub to your iPhone/iPad, then connect AeroBand Guitar to the hub using a data cable.
- Android devices: AeroBand Guitar can be connected directly via a data cable.
2. Bluetooth MIDI Connection
AeroBand Guitar supports Bluetooth MIDI connections with compatible computers (Windows/macOS) and mobile devices (iOS/Android).After connecting, you can use AeroBand Guitar as a wireless MIDI controller to send performance data to compatible DAW software or apps and control virtual instruments or other MIDI functions.
Please note:
- When using AeroBand Guitar as a MIDI controller, no additional audio interface is required when connecting it to a computer or mobile device.
- Compatibility may vary by software version.
What MIDI software is compatible with the AeroBand Guitar?
The AeroBand Guitar is compatible with nearly all major DAWs, including:
- Logic Pro
- Ableton Live
- FL Studio
- Cubase
- Studio One
- Reaper
And other MIDI software supporting standard USB-MIDI protocols.
How do I fix latency when using my AeroBand Guitar with a DAW?
Low-latency adjustment
All MIDI devices connected to a DAW will experience some latency. However, adjusting the ASIO buffer size can minimize this latency as much as possible.
What is ASIO?
ASIO (Audio Stream Input/Output) is a driver protocol designed for low-latency audio data transfer between your audio interface and DAW software.Unlike other MIDI guitars that require analog-to-digital conversion (inevitably causing latency), AeroBand guitars use direct digital-to-digital conversion, resulting in latency levels comparable to MIDI keyboards.
Configuration Guide (using Cubase as an example):
- In Cubase, navigate to: "Studio" > "Studio Setup".
- Click "Audio system" > "Your audio interface driver" > "Control panel".
- Navigate to "Setup" > "ASIO Buffer Size". Select the optimal buffer size for your system configuration.
Note that smaller buffer sizes reduce latency but increase CPU load and may cause audio artifacts. For most users, we recommend 64 or 128 samples as the optimal balance.
Why do some MIDI notes get stuck or cut off while playing?
The AeroBand Guitar's highly sensitive string detection may occasionally cause fragmented or stuck MIDI notes during normal performance, particularly when using a pick. This occurs due to the instrument's precise digital tracking responding to pick attack variations. This issue can be resolved by adjusting the string sensitivity settings in the companion app.
- Open the guitar app. Connect your AeroBand Guitar with Bluetooth.
- Click "Advanced Settings" > " Sensitivity Adjustment".
- Adjust individual Light-Pluck (default: 100) to 20-30 for optimal MIDI tracking stability.
Does AeroBand Guitar work as a MIDI controller for VST/AU instruments in DAWs?
Yes, AeroBand Guitar can work as a MIDI controller for VST/AU instruments in DAWs.When connected to a computer via a wire connection, AeroBand Guitar outputs MIDI data that can be received by DAWs such as Cubase, Ableton Live, Studio One, and Reaper. You can then use your DAW's built-in virtual instruments or third-party VST/AU plugins to play a wide variety of instrument sounds. Please note:AeroBand Guitar does not run or install VST/AU plugins directly. VST/AU plugins must be installed and hosted within a compatible DAW on your computer.AeroBand Guitar outputs each string on a separate MIDI channel by default. For the best playing experience, some VST/AU instruments may require support for multi-channel MIDI input.MIDI configuration varies between DAWs and plugins. Please refer to the documentation for your DAW or VST/AU plugin for the appropriate setup instructions.
Does AeroBand Guitar support single MIDI channel output when connected to DAW software?
No. When connected to DAW software, AeroBand Guitar uses a multi-channel MIDI output method, with each string transmitting MIDI data through a separate MIDI channel. For example:
- String 1 → MIDI Channel 6
- String 2 → MIDI Channel 5
- String 3 → MIDI Channel 4
- String 4 → MIDI Channel 3
- String 5 → MIDI Channel 2
- String 6 → MIDI Channel 1
Currently, AeroBand Guitar does not support setting all strings to output through a single MIDI channel. If your DAW software or external MIDI instrument only supports single-channel input, you can use MIDI routing functions in your DAW or third-party MIDI tools to merge or remap multiple MIDI channels to a single channel.
Can AeroBand Guitar be used as a hardware MIDI controller with external MIDI devices?
Yes. AeroBand Guitar can be used as a hardware MIDI controller with external devices that support USB Host and USB MIDI input, allowing you to control external sound modules, synthesizers, and other compatible MIDI devices.AeroBand Guitar outputs standard MIDI data through a wire connection. When connecting to an external MIDI device, make sure the target device supports USB MIDI input, or use a compatible USB MIDI Host or MIDI interface. Please note:AeroBand Guitar does not support direct connection to traditional 5-pin MIDI ports. To connect to devices with a 5-pin MIDI input, you must use a compatible USB MIDI Host or MIDI interface. The external device must support standard MIDI messages, such as Note and Velocity, to respond correctly to the performance data sent by AeroBand Guitar.
